My understanding of the medicine and wisdom of plants has been passed on to me in folkloric tradition by people who have held onto their customs, beliefs and stories. I have received standard education in related fields as well – Massage Therapy, Aromatherapy, Plant Spirit Medicine – but my mentors and main influences have always been “the people.” My work represents a lineage, traditions I’m blessed to be a part of. Mountain Spirit Botanicals is a reflection of these traditions …
As an alternative to products that are chemically mass-produced, I created a product line exclusively from plant material. Every ingredient is either a plant or the by-product of a plant or tree that has been organically cultivated or ethically wild-harvested. No compromise.
Mountain Spirit began in my kitchen, when my daughter Lily was four years old. It was a means for me to instill in her the value of personal ritual and the beauty that comes with taking quiet time for ourselves and with the ones we love – and turning to nature for our well-being.
In the early days, my ingredients were found in my cabinets and garden. The first plant I worked with was Lavender; my first product was Sweet Meadows, a soft, floral scent that we still offer. Now I depend on dedicated gardeners and farmers who tend their lands with intelligence and heart. The botanicals they provide me with are unsurpassed in quality … enabling me to continue to create an exquisite, truly natural, botanical hair and skin care line.
The methods that I’ve adopted cause no harm. Quite the contrary, my work supports your health and well-being as well as that of the environment. The fields and meadows where organic practices are in place encourage natural habitats. Birds, bees, and butterflies go around “kissing” flowers all day. That in turn, ensures the pollination necessary for the continued and abundant growth of species – which, in turn, supplies us with an everlasting source of beauty and nourishment.
I firmly believe that all of this – the song of birds, the buzz of bees, the caring intent of the farmer, the manner in which I “stir the pot” – goes into our end result: products born of integrity and love.
