Wildlife & Weeds

Posted by Elise Muller on

I am of an age where I understand the importance of reflecting on my life - the times I've been blessed, the times I've been protected from oblivious choices and actions.  As I grow older and (hopefully) gain wisdom, I'm awed by the amount of times that I've been protected and times I've been blessed with the people and places that have shaped me.  Although I could write volumnes on these encounters, for now I speak of this wildness, the land that has encouraged me to become quiet, to observe. It's been a gift to live alongside meadows, woodlands, mountain...

Mountain Spirit / Harvest Offerings

Posted by Elise Muller on

Autumn blessings to all ... Autumn is a beautiful season - a reminder to count our blessings and to be grateful for the offerings so abundantly provided by nature.  In this season of harvest, I gather the last of my garden's bounty, collect seeds, dead-head spent blooms and clean up garden beds to prepare them for what is to come in future seasons. Posted by Elise Muller on

Although this article will be a bit “round-about," please continue reading for the information I've discovered is delightful (and the bees' have always known). This morning, observing bees’ and butterflies having a glorious time amidst Chamomile and Lemon Balm, my heart was full.  My garden is fragrant, filled with birds singing, bees’ buzzing, butterflies fluttering (and of course) Otis resting in the shade of the old Maple.  In moments such as these I often reflect on the adage “if you build it they will come”.  For me, nothing reveals this more so than my garden.  I have worked this garden...

Comfrey

Posted by Elise Muller on

Comfrey has come up in the garden, abundant with tender leaves and healing properties. I’ve worked these plants for numerous years – composting from my bin, carefully cutting back and harvesting, visiting each plant early mornings to whisper words of encouragement and to give thanks for the blessings they bestow. As some of you know, May is also the month that I celebrate my daughter’s birth. When Lily was young I began an in-depth study of plants and the numerous ways to work with their medicinal qualities. Mountain Spirit Botanicals is one result of my endeavors to explore the wisdom...
